Corpus Christi (Boże Ciało) falls on Thursday, 27 May 2027 in Poland. It is a national public holiday, observed with outdoor processions through town and city centres across the country. The most elaborate and photogenic ceremony takes place in Kraków, where a procession routes through the Old Town from Wawel Cathedral to the Rynek Główny, with altar stations decorated in flowers at each corner of the main square.

The Kraków Corpus Christi procession has been held continuously since the Middle Ages. The Archbishop of Kraków leads the procession, carrying the monstrance under a canopy, accompanied by clergy, representatives of religious confraternities, civic dignitaries, and thousands of parishioners. Flower petals are scattered on the route. The four altars on the Rynek Główny are elaborately decorated with flowers, greenery, and religious imagery - the square is transformed for the day.

What to expect

The procession in Kraków typically departs from Wawel Cathedral at around 09:00 and arrives on the Rynek Główny in the late morning, where the outdoor Mass takes place at each altar in sequence. Spectators line the route; the Rynek fills with both worshippers and observers. The event is open to all and does not require tickets.

Beyond Kraków, significant processions take place in Warsaw (from St. John’s Cathedral in the Old Town), Częstochowa (at the Jasna Góra monastery), Łowicz (famous for elaborate folk costumes worn by participants), and in parishes throughout the country. The Łowicz procession draws particular attention for the regional folk dress worn by hundreds of participants.

Practical notes for 2027

As a public holiday, most shops, offices, and many museums will be closed on 27 May. Tourist restaurants and major attractions in Kraków, Warsaw, and other cities generally remain open. Public transport operates on a reduced holiday schedule.

The late May date in 2027 means the weather is typically mild and often sunny - one of the more comfortable times to observe an outdoor religious ceremony in Poland. Bring a light jacket in case of rain.
