The Krakow Pierogi Festival returns to Rynek Główny — the city’s main market square — in the last week of August 2026. Now in its second decade, the festival draws vendors from across Poland, each presenting their own take on Poland’s most recognised dish, alongside competitions, live demonstrations, and public tastings.
What Happens at the Festival
The market square fills with stalls representing different regional pierogi traditions. Alongside the classic ruskie (potato and cheese) and meat-filled varieties, the festival typically features less familiar regional versions: sweet fruit-filled pierogi from the south, potato and buckwheat fillings from the northeast, and in recent years a growing number of modern interpretations from Krakow restaurants.
The centrepiece event is the competition for best pierogi, judged by a rotating panel that has included chefs, food critics, and previous winners. Stalls are open from midday, with the main competition and award ceremony usually held on the final afternoon.
Entry to the festival area is free. Pierogi portions from vendors are priced individually and are generally inexpensive.
Getting There
Rynek Główny is the centre of Krakow’s Old Town, accessible on foot from most accommodation in the area. Tram lines from the main train station (Kraków Główny) reach the Old Town perimeter in under ten minutes.

The festival runs across three to four days, typically the last Thursday through Sunday of August. The 2026 edition is expected to follow this pattern.
