Icelandair launched a new seasonal route between Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) and Keflavík International Airport (KEF) on 18 September 2026. The service operates twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and is scheduled to run through the end of October, with a potential extension if load factors justify it.

What the Route Opens Up

For travellers based in northern Poland, this is the first direct connection to Iceland. Previously, reaching Reykjavík from Gdańsk required a connection through Warsaw, Copenhagen, Oslo, or London - adding several hours and often a full day to the journey.

The new route also positions Keflavík as a potential transit hub for Gdańsk travellers heading to North America. Icelandair’s Stopover programme allows passengers routing through Keflavík to add a stay in Iceland at no extra airfare cost - a mechanism that works in both directions.

Flight Details

  • Route: Gdańsk (GDN) – Keflavík (KEF)
  • Frequency: 2× weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays)
  • Aircraft: Icelandair Boeing 737 MAX 8
  • Flight time: Approximately 3 hours 20 minutes
  • Season: 18 September – end October 2026 (dates subject to extension)

Fares for the launch period began at approximately €149 one way in Economy. Saga Premium (business) seats are available on all departures.

Booking Considerations

If you are looking at September or October travel to Iceland and are based in northern Poland or the Tri-City area (Gdańsk–Gdynia–Sopot), this route eliminates the most significant friction point.

Iceland in late September and October offers the aurora borealis (assuming clear skies), access to the Highland roads before their seasonal closure (F-roads typically close in mid-to-late October), and significantly lower hotel prices than the July–August peak.

Our guide to flights to Poland covers arriving into Gdańsk and the other main airports, and is worth reviewing if you are planning an inbound itinerary that combines Poland and Iceland. To compare fares and book flights into Poland, search flights to Poland across all major carriers.

Icelandair’s Wider Poland Network

Before this route, Icelandair’s Poland connections ran through Warsaw Chopin (WAW), which they operate year-round. The Gdańsk addition extends their reach to the Baltic coast and represents the first regional airport connection they have opened in Poland.

Whether the route becomes permanent will depend on autumn 2026 performance. Gdańsk’s aviation market has grown steadily since 2020 and the Tri-City catchment area - roughly 1.5 million people - provides a reasonable base for a twice-weekly operation.
