Poland’s national meteorological institute IMGW issued third-level (red) severe weather warnings on 8 July 2026 for Puck and Nowy Dwór Gdański counties in Pomerania, covering the Baltic coastline, Gdańsk Bay, and the Hel Peninsula. Wind gusts of up to 120 km/h are forecast, with additional orange and yellow storm alerts extended across northeastern Poland.

The red alert — the highest level issued by IMGW — signals conditions severe enough to pose direct risk to life and infrastructure.

Areas Affected

  • Hel Peninsula — the narrow spit stretching into the Gulf of Gdańsk is under the most severe warning; beaches and coastal paths are dangerous
  • Gdańsk Bay — maritime warnings are in effect; ferry crossings to the Peninsula and boat excursions should be avoided
  • Puck and Nowy Dwór Gdański — red-level zones where outdoor activity should be suspended
  • Northeastern Poland broadly — orange warnings indicate high wind and lightning risk; Warmia-Masuria and Podlaskie regions included in lower-tier alerts

Practical Advice for Travellers

If you are currently in the Gdańsk region or the Tri-City area (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot):

  • Stay indoors away from windows and trees during the warning period
  • Avoid the beach and Hel Peninsula — coastal areas are hazardous and emergency services access may be limited
  • Check local transport — Tri-City public transport and road conditions may be disrupted; confirm train and bus services before travelling
  • Postpone boat trips and water activities — maritime conditions are unsafe; ferry services may suspend

The warning was active on 8 July and may be updated or extended. Monitor the IMGW website (imgw.pl) for the current status of alerts before travelling to the Baltic coast.
